 Winter Love Joy Scholarship Program

This year’s Winter Love Joy Scholarship Ceremony will be conducted at 9:00 am on Saturday, November 3 in the Main Shrine of Fo Guang Shan Hsi Lai Temple. The scholarships will be presented to worthy students from elementary, middle, and high schools of the Hacienda-La Puente Unified School District. Two hundred students from thirty-four schools will benefit from the program.

In addition, we will be presenting the Sheriff’s Department of the City of Industry and Battalion 12 of the local Fire Department with donations in support of their programs as a token of our appreciation for the hard work of these local heroes in maintaining safety and order in the community.

The Office of Supervisor of the Fourth District and all the officers of the Hacienda-La Puente Unified School District Board of Education will be present at the ceremony, including the Superintendent of the Hacienda La Puente School District, Dr. Barbara Nakaoka. The President of the Board, Dr. Joseph Chang, will also attend the ceremony.

2012 Principals of the participating schools have expressed that the program not only provides care for the students but also a unique cultural journey with profound educational meaning for all participants. Most importantly, the students have learned to care for others and gain confidence in themselves. The families of the students have also been invited to the ceremony. Last year, we had over 600 persons attend the event. The attendees were given a tour of Hsi Lai Temple, provided with lunch, and participated in a raffle where an Apple iPad was given away as the ultimate prize. It was a fun day for all who participated and this year’s event should be just as fun!

The slow economy and education budget cuts will make this winter even chillier than before and there are more students who need support. We hope you can open up your hearts to provide sponsorships to benefit even more students.
