Buddha’s Light Hsi Lai School Children Share Love Through Song, Honoring Community Heroes

Buddha’s Light Hsi Lai School was invited to participate in the Hacienda Heights community’s National Night Out. The school specially assembled second and third-grade students from its summer session and after-school program. After days of practice, the children presented a carefully prepared song-and-dance performance on the afternoon of August 8, 2025. Through heartfelt singing and crisp choreography, they conveyed the spirit of mutual support embodied in the Four Givings—giving others confidence, joy, hope, and convenience.
Guided by Fo Guang Shan founder Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s philosophy of “nurturing talent through education,” Hsi Lai School places importance not only on academic achievement, but also on cultivating compassion, a sense of responsibility, and community engagement. This performance was more than a showcase of talent; it was an opportunity for students to put the principles of Humanistic Buddhism into action, paying tribute to the community heroes who protect the city and serve society.
Second-grade students performed the classic soul song “Lean On Me,” whose lyrics emphasize mutual support and care along life’s journey. This message resonates with the spirit of Humanistic Buddhism advocated by Venerable Master Hsing Yun—centered on compassion, wisdom, equality, respect, and tolerance, and on actively serving society by putting the Three Acts of Goodness into daily practice. Through music, the children hoped to share warmth and a sense of unity with the community.
Third-grade students followed with “Dreamers,” symbolizing the dream star within every child waiting to be ignited. Venerable Master Hsing Yun once said, “One must have aspirations in the heart to accomplish great undertakings.” The mission of education lies in inspiring children’s ideals and unlocking their potential. Hsi Lai School hopes that through academics, character education, and multicultural learning, students will courageously pursue their life visions and values.
At the event, residents softly sang along with the rhythm and responded with enthusiastic applause. Through song and dance, the children expressed blessings for society and allowed the community to feel sincerity and kindness that transcend age and culture, adding warmth and light to the summer evening.
