Los Angeles County Celebrates Lunar New Year with Asian EmployeesFire Horse Year Inspires Passion and Action

Each year during the Lunar New Year season, Los Angeles County First District Supervisor Hilda L. Solis hosts a celebration honoring Asian American employees serving in county government, along with Asian American elected officials and representatives of nonprofit organizations, to welcome the new year together and celebrate the vitality and unity of the county’s diverse communities.
At this year’s Asian Lunar New Year Celebration, held on March 6, Venerable Huicheng of the Department of Social Education and Outreach at Fo Guang Shan Hsi Lai Temple attended the event, accompanied by BLIA Los Angeles Chapter President Echo Tsai and White Pagoda Subchapter I President Daniel Hu, joining community leaders in the festive celebration.
The event opened with a lively traditional lion dance, bringing a joyful holiday atmosphere while symbolizing good fortune and prosperity for the coming year. Representatives from numerous Asian community organizations and Los Angeles County Asian employee associations gathered for the celebration, reflecting the strength and unity of the county’s multicultural community.
During her remarks, Congresswoman Judy Chu noted that Asian Americans have a long and rich history in California and have made significant contributions in government, business, and public service. She also introduced Supervisor Hilda Solis, expressing appreciation for her longstanding commitment to supporting diverse communities and advancing community development.
Supervisor Solis presented Certificates of Appreciation to eight Asian employee associations within the Los Angeles County government, including organizations representing Chinese, Filipino, Burmese, and other Asian communities, recognizing their outstanding contributions to public service and cultural exchange. She remarked that these employee organizations not only strengthen cross-cultural understanding but also help county government better serve the needs of local communities.
In her speech, Supervisor Solis also expressed gratitude to nearly 5,000 Los Angeles County employees for their continued dedication and service to the community. She noted that this year marks the rare Year of the Fire Horse, which occurs once every sixty years and symbolizes passion, courage, and initiative. She encouraged everyone to continue working together in the coming year to build a more harmonious and vibrant community.
